Anna Maxymiw is still finding her way, but has started to write the guidebook more often – and that makes all the difference.

Ben Rawluk grew up in Northern BC before moving to Victoria to do his undergraduate degree at UVic. He's been published in THIS SIDE OF WEST and FUTURE EARTH, and has been involved in various small-press ventures and zines along the way.

Evan Duggan is a 24 year old journalism masters student. He was born and raised on a dairy farm in the North Okanagan. He is surrounding himself with creative writers so that they can uplift his creative spirit! He is interested in social justice, human rights, travel, politics and activism.

Kim Fu is another MFA student. Cooking, fighting, and writing are the things her body knows.

Melissa Sawatsky is currently trying on different writing hats and seeing how they fit, but poetry is her old, faithful friend. She has been published in emerge 2006, Rhubarb Magazine and has self-published a chapbook entitled Berlin. In December 2009, Melissa will have a creative non-fiction article featured in Sad Magazine.

Kevin Spenst's prose has appeared in the pages of Broken Pencil, Hacksaw Zine and the Martian Press Review. Some of his poems have appeared in ditchpoetry, inscribed, 4 and 20 poetry journal and the Vancouver magazine, one cool word. One of his longer poems came in as a finalist in a Valentine's Day poetry contest held by the magazine Writer's Digest.

Natalie Thompson grew up in the flattest part of the prairies - Estevan, Saskatchewan. As a result, she is drawn to things like knives, tables, floors and planing instruments. However, her writing is mountainous in regions. A poet, as well as a fiction and non-fiction writer, she walks the landscape of words whatever their height may be.

Kaitlin Fontana is a National Magazine award winning writer living in Vancouver, BC. Her work has appeared in Event, Room, SPIN, Rolling Stone, Exclaim! and others. She is a first year MFA at UBC.

Andrea Bennett writes poetry and short fiction and makes one-panel comics. She was a member of the kazoo! artists collective in Guelph, Ontario.

Emily Davidson is a writer out of Saint John, New Brunswick. Her main areas of focus include poetry and fiction, and she has recently begun dabbling in screenplay. Emily enjoys books, movies, knitting, and naps.

Erika Thorkelson grew up in Winnipeg, MB and Edmonton, AB, Canada. She has worked as a journalist, a waitress, a hotel front desk clerk, a bartender, a computer salesperson, a secretary and a teacher. She is currently working on a novel inspired by her experiences as an
English teacher in Japan.

Jeff Stautz's short fiction has appeared most recently in The First Line, and is forthcoming in the Machine of Death anthology. He has received a BC Arts Council Scholarship and a Fishtrap Fellowship, and has been a writer in residence at the Montana Artists' Refuge.

Sigal Samuel writes fiction and plays. She has lived in Montreal, New York, and Jerusalem, and is obsessed with languages, Heidegger, Indian food, and the Alhambra. When she grows up she wants to marry Alyosha Karamazov.


Chris Urquhart has written for The Santiago Times, Exploding Face Magazine, and COLORS Magazine. She is currently working on a book about modern nomads in North America and interning at Adbusters. Her website is: www.chrisurquhart.ca
